Finally! A Race Plan

When I wrote in a post earlier this spring about Plans A,B,C…..M, I really didn’t think at the time I would make it to the end of the alphabet. But as things progressed this summer and “life happened”, my ideas changed, my interests changed, and race availability changed. Do I even want to race this year?? Start a season in Sept when others are winding down?? What-am I on the Australian schedule??

After completely stressing myself-and Cris and ML- out about what to do I finally decided to focus on Running races for the fall and winter. I will finally be able to don my Trakkers green race kit, throw on my Saucony race shoes and toe the line. I still have to decide between Fastwitch and Kinvara! I raced in Fastwitch last year-loved them. I will be testing them both out this fall.

My Triathlon season will resume in Costa Rica in February 2011.

I proceeded to pick some races-one per month, increasing in distance. Here is the plan:

Sept 18: the Tyrone Founders Day 5k. This is a huge event here in the south-I am sure you’ve heard of it. It may actually turn into 2 races; if my nephew Jack’s soccer schedule allows, he and I will run the 1 mile race first, then I will do the 5k. Biting off a lot for the first event J

Oct 16: the Peachtree City Classic 15k. I have done a few times. The PTC running club does a fantastic job. This is a highly competitive race, all on twisty, turny golf cart paths.

Nov 6: Zooma Half Marathon. I did this last year as a tune up race for the Atlanta Marathon on Thanksgiving. It was a tough course and very well run. They have changed the location, but knowing the area the race will still have good hills. And, it’s on my 45th birthday. Great way to celebrate moving to a new Age Group!

Dec 11: Thunder Road Marathon-in the Home of Nascar, Charlotte NC. Course looks nice-rolling hills. Since living in Atlanta I must admit I have spent some time in sports bars watching a Nascar race so why not run the marathon in its’ honor??

So, this is the plan; Cris and ML were on board, and then it happened. Within HOURS of finalizing my plan, I get a message from teammate Kiersten about the HalfFull Triathlon in MD on Oct 3. She sends me a link to the site. “Don’t look-you have made up your mind” I told myself. But I looked-and this race spoke to my heart….for Cancer research.

“Cris-how about a road trip to MD in Oct??” “Why” “A race for Cancer”. So, we debated about the drive, and then finally I looked at flights-Air Tran $49 one way. Air Tran doesn’t charge outrageous bikes fees. Let’s do it!! Thanks Kiersten!!

Next task to tell ML I threw a little wrench in our final plan. What’s a little wrench J

Now I have some work to do-yikes. At this point it will be tough to keep up with Jack for a mile race!!
