A Real Power Meter
AM I AS GOOD OF A PERSON AS I AM AN ATHLETE?
I recently read a blog post that REALLY made me think. I know… put your safety goggles on and watch out. No for reals, I have thought about this a ridiculous amount in the last 5 months or so, but really have struggled to put it into words [at least that anyone else can make sense of]. Although I am writing this about “athletes” because that’s what specifically has applied to my own life, you could insert anything in its place. I’m actually sharing this as more of part of my journey. This post is more about where I started 5 months ago and some of the questions I/we’ve asked that have led to VERY positive change for our family. We’ve come a long way since then – and really am so proud of that. Let me be clear, I am not talking about giving anything up. Being active and involved in athletics is part of who I am. This post is about BALANCE and PERSPECTIVE – which I strive to have more of each day. Thank you for reading.
What would happen if… athletes were as dedicated to their families and friends as they are their sport?
Can you imagine coming up with GOALS for your relationships with the people that matter most in your life? Then…

Lime Green Jelly Bean
I love how the Trakkers kit stands out in the crowd. This pic was taken at the Trailblazer Triathlon in Medical Lake, Washington this June.

Create Your Own Luck, St. Paddy!
I had a friend awhile back that frequently mentioned that he didn’t believe that there was such thing as luck… he said we create our own luck. I kinda like that theory. The grab-life-by-the-horns-and-make-it-what-you-want mentality is something that resonates in my soul. Take risks, work hard, and go after what you want. MAKE it happen, don’t wait for it to happen to you.
This last month or so has been crazy to say the least. Lots that’s hard to explain, hard to understand, hard to make sense of… overwhelming to say the least.
I wanna get back in the driver’s seat… or hell, I’d take anything besides the trunk.
Speaking of luck, the only luck I’ve had lately is that I’ve got a good remedy for getting bike grease out of clothes. Don’t you haaaate that?!?! Grrrr… So squeezies, here’s what you do: You get the de-greasing hand cream (usually in the automotive section) and put it on your clothes when they’re dry. Let set for 20 minutes and then wash in the hottest water possible. If it doesn’t come out completely, let clothing *air dry* then repeat. Take THAT Martha Stewart! BAM! Say whaaaaaaaat?!?!?!?!
Once again, I’m taking a lesson from my daughter, Emma. She’s making her own destiny… sortin’ through the bag of Frosted Mini Wheats like she’s diggin’ for the m&ms in the trail mix.
You want the super frosted squares,…

Pi Day
Pi Day is a geeeeenius idea. Have you heard of this? So apparently since the mathematical ‘pi’ is equivalent to 3.14… then, March 14th or 3/14 is now Pi Day. Pi…pie… get it? I KNOW! Friggin’ brilliant! Hallmark is going to be all over this, watch out people. Soon we’ll all be sending Pi Day cards, decorating our Pi Day trees and hanging Pi Day baskets from our neighbors door knobs. At least the Pi Day gift exchange will be one worth participating in…
Who doesn’t need a reason to eat pie? Pillsbury sure as hell doesn’t! Check out this email I got from them today…lol.
I was planning on celebrating Pi Day with a long run and swim. I felt like crap today – combo of sore throat and headache – so no workouts, just pie.…lots of pie.
This pic was taken last week at masters swim… this is what I should have been doing today to work off earn my pie. That is half the reason that triathletes train as much as we do, right? So we feel totally justified indulging in such meaningful celebrations such as Pi Day. Seems as though the simple fact that it was March 14th was enough justification for me today, screw the work outs.
I did manage to do some cleaning and shopping to prep for next week. I got to the store and took a look at…

Foggle: Magic Wipes
As promised on Facebook, I gave SBRs Foggle (a.k.a Magic Wipes) a go at this morning’s masters swim with my Blue Seventy goggles. Lurve. All you have to do is wipe the inside and outside of the lenses (goggles need to be dry), and then let the solution dry. That’s it.
The cool part is that the wipe is re-usable up to 5-6 times. So, having a little baggy to store it in would be a good idea so as not to waste it. Or heck share the love wichya frens! And check out these crystal clear lenses as proof of how well it worked… niiiiice. Seriously, I have tried other de-foggers before and had to rub stuff into the lenses and ended up scratching the crap out of my lenses in the process. This was a simple wipe… no scrubbing or scratching. No ruining perfectly good goggles trying to keep them clear.

Bath Time
It’s weekly tubby time at my house on Sundays. I swear it’s not the only day we bathe, but it is the day I wash, dry, and package up all the fruits and veggies for the week.
As you may or may not know, I am a teacher. I make meeeeeelions and meeeeelions of dollars teaching the future leaders of America. (Sarcasm font inserted here). Seriously, I just got an email last week from Mrs. Leena El Amin who has a project for me worth 7.5 million pounds. YES! It’s my lucky break – FINALLY!
So with my loads and loads of money, I struggle with shopping and buying organic. Obviously, organic/food co-op/homegrown is the way to go – but since I am trying to eat fresh (which is expensive anyway), buying everything organic is unrealistic. I try to prioritize, but one of my “tricks” is to wash everything in a cold water-vinegar bath. I fill up my sink 1/2 to 3/4 full depending on how many fruits and veggies, and dump about 1 cup of white vinegar. Dump in all kinds of veggies and fruits (even works with berries and lettuce). Let soak for about 15 minutes, rinse and dry well.
This soak helps remove pesticides and all the other scary stuff they spray our foods with. If you look at the leftover water, well don’t, cause it will kind of make your stomach turn. Or…
