My flashy cute new Avia Bolt II’s!

So two weeks ago or so, brown Santa brought me a present!

Like a kid on Xmas morning, I ripped it open to find some super sweet looking shoes from new Trakkers Sponsor, Avia!
So the first thing I did was take a picture, of course, and then toss them in my bag to try out on my morning run!

As I put them on my feet, I immediately was a fan of the heel tab to quickly pull on the shoes.  This should prove to be very helpful during triathlon transitions and they even came with cute little speed lacking with the locking lace toggle!
Years ago I self diagnosed myself as overpronator and wore the heaviest stability shoes.  I am not sure how much my running style has changed over the last 7 years or so that I have been running but I am guessing I never needed all that stability and the more minimal, the better they seem to feel to me.  Yet, I want shoes to have enough to them that I can wear them in any distance and not worry about them not having enough support and leading to injury if I were to wear them on a longer run.
Day 1 they were put to the test.  I hopped onto the treadmill for my 2 hour aerobic run.  The shoes felt very good right out of the gate with some cushion…

Run for Regis Race Report

First off, I love this race!  This was the first time I have “raced” this new course and the first time I only did 13.  I was used to the old course on the Buckeye Trail.  I ran it in 2008 which was my first 50K, which I ran the majority with two of my close friends, Amie and Elizabeth!!!  Then in 2009, I killed myself in very snowy conditions to come up a little short as 2nd overall female.  2010, I signed up, only to sit out with a tibia stress fracture.  This yr, 2011 , I feared I was borderline tibia stress fracture re-occurence and opted to just do 13.1 (or 13.34 according to my garmin) and play it safe!

I think this was a good idea and I REALLY enjoyed my day!  My plan was to go out easy and just enjoy myself.  Yet, as usual we started off and the atmosphere caught up with me and I was running faster than planned!  We started off slipping and sliding through the snowy field.  My first thought was pretty much, holy sh!t, this is going to be some rough footing.  I was pretty much running at race pace, which for mile 1 was only 9:08 in that snow.  One of my training partners, CK, was just in front of me, and for some reason I just felt compelled to stick in that pack with 3 guys.  As

Happy New Year!

New Year, continued madness!  And as most of you, I have been looking forward to kicking off the new year right, but then I ended up sick as a dog.  So the story goes as such….

Holiday madness- Ran around like chicken with head cut off trying to see everyone with very little time off work and still trying to get in the training.

Wednesday, scooted out of the office for my FTP test on the bike with the help of DM.  I was not sure what to expect as I have been slacking on the bike in the offseason to focus more on running.  The FTP test deserves a post of its own but in a nutshell it was a 20 min warmup, some 1 min on, 1 min recovery pickups and then 5 minutes all out, 10 min recovery, 20 minutes hard to grueling finale and then 10 minutes of catching my breath.  I was happy to have a significantly better showing than last year, albeit not anywhere close to the boys in terms of wattage but a very respectable watts / kg ratio compared to them.  Improvement makes me happy!

After the test I continued to cough into the night, chalking it up to a hard effort, but felt slightly cruddy on Thursday through my run intervals and subsequent swim.  Ran around hitting the stores the rest of the day on Thursday enjoying the day off with…

Super Sweet Weekend!

Super Sweet Weekend!

Soooo after getting off work on Friday, the husband and I headed to meet up with some friends at Rays Indoor Mountain Bike Park for a super fun night of checking out all the new changes such as the new room on the cross country loop, the new jump line in the intermediate area, some improved bathrooms and a host of other things!  We were sure to hit everything there to take it all in!  While I felt a little rusty and a wee bit cautious on the jumps, it was a good time all in all!  The five of us had some fun playing HORSE on the different lines and seeing just who really had technical skillz….needless to say, I did not win!  Afterwards, we hit Rocknes for some food and drink and then it was time to hit the hay!

Saturday morning I got woke up early by the dog so I had plenty of time for stupid housework before heading off to the Twinsburg Turkey Trot!  It was a beautiful morning that was warming up quickly!  After picking up my packet and seeing some friends, I headed out for a 2 mile warm-up with some striders before rushing to the bathroom for one final stop.  With the count down at the start line, I was off.  I glanced down at my Garmin to see the splits and saw something with a 4 at the front and…

Columbus Half Mary Suffer-Report!

Here is the long and hopefully the short of my Columbus half mary!

I hit the road Saturday around 12 with my sister and my husband and made it into Columbus by 3ish.  We hit the expo.  I was signed up for the full and knew the deadline to officially switch was Oct 1 but had missed that deadline.  Turns out it was OK as they switched me automatically in the results!  YEAH!

So anyways, the expo was pretty run of the mill, well-organized with no long waits, despite the sell out crowd!  Bonus!  However I went to get my black marathon shirt and they did not have any smalls left.  They tried to tell me they ran small but I know better.  So I asked if they had any smalls left in the half marathon hot pink shirt.  They did!  Perfect, the shirt was actually the event I was doing, my size and did I mention HAWT PINK!  SWEET!  I did not buy anything else but as usual I had my eyes on a pair of HAWT PINK compression socks that keep tempting me every time I see them!

Before leaving, I made the girls stop so that I could make our classic door poster basically being a tad obnoxious about the fast females rooming there!  Haha!  I think I get more pleasure in this because poor CV always gets embarassed as we have to pose for pics with…

My First Big Trophy in a Tri!

All this triathlon business started back in 2006.  I have been fortunate enough over the years to walk away with some 2 and 3’s and some ag awards, but this weekend was my first 1st Place Overall Female in a triathlon which was special for me!  Not only that, there were some good female competitors out there on this day!

So the day before I took as a rest day and spent the day laughing and riding motorcycles.  Sunday morning, I woke up at the crack of dawn and drove out to Monroe Falls for the race.  I was not quite as well prepared for this race as I sat by my car race morning going through all my normal pre-race activities (like foggle on the goggles and pulling everything out of 3 bags and putting into one bag, etc.).  Then I had a bunch of CTC stuff to get out and set-up.  Needless to say between all that and some chatting, I was beginning to feel tight on time.

I threw my Saucony Fast Twitch 4s on and went for a short warm up as getting in a warm-up before a sprint is fairly critical in my book.  I went to stop at one bathroom but there was a decent line so I decided I would just jog to the one on the other side of the park, which was locked!  CRAP!  So by this time I am running…

REV3 Knoxville Race Report!

Where to start?  Well I had signed up for the Rev 3series and I assumed this would be my worst placing of the three races mainly because swimming is always my weakest link and proportionately it counts more in the Olympic distance than the full.  So let’s hope it holds true and each race gets better…we can hope anyways ;-)

So the week leading up to race week was vacation week which was nice.  I was able to hit all key workouts and even get in a bunch of open water swimming…bonus!

Friday and Saturday, I enjoyed a nice mini taper for Sunday’s Oly tri.  I was very laid back about this race, probably more than I should have been.

Saturday was an early start to a busy day.  I actually spent a lot of time making sure everything was laid out and in good order (no more forget the timing chip fiascos or goggles or anything like that this year…fingers crossed).  I had wanted to get in a little more course preview time (which I did not end up with any) but was trying to balance my weekend with keeping the husband happy.  We had a nice day and I must admit I was not as well behaved with my intake the day before a race as I need to be (especially when it comes to those longer races).  Nonetheless, thankfully all worked out and come race time I…

A whole bunch of hollerin and swallerin!

A whole bunch of hollerin and swallerin!

At least that was what the singing cowboy said it was time for!

Oh I am ready to move!

I had the best time down in Nashville this weekend. The funny thing I realized about Nashville is that everytime I would bring it up, everyone mentions how much they love it, how fun the town is, what we should hit and on and on! Now I know why! That place is mad fun!

So back awhile ago I had decided that this spring I wanted to do a fun marathon and I had heard Nashville fit the bill so I signed up. Yet, after the tibia stress fracture set back over winter and so much time off I decided it wise to not try to build too quickly and just do the half.

I went back and forth with coach as to how I should run it. It was tagged as a B race on my calendar with my A Oly Rev 3 Knoxville race two weeks later. The plan was to run it as a training run for the half Quassy IM I am doing in June. Just wanted to run it as a training run and see how the hr trended to see if my pacing and effort would be on schedule and realistic for the half I wanted to run after a 1.2 m swim and 56 mile bike.

The Plan: Run 1st 5 miles at 7:45…

Cleveland Tri Club Training Camp

This weekend rocked! First ever CTC Training Camp. We ate, we drank, we trained, we learned and we laughed! Good times!

Loaded down the RV with major amounts of food for the camp after some power shopping trips and headed out Friday afternoon to Mohican about 2.5 hours away.

Upon arrival, I kicked my feet up and just enjoyed some beers and good conversation. There was a very popular headlight trail run that night which I opted out of on account of my tender tibia and trying not to overdue it.

Saturday morning came fast and was kicked off with a warm up clinic and lots of drills like high knee, butt kickers, lunges, striders, grapevine, etc. It really does feel good to wake up the muscles and then I was off on a mountain bike ride. My Team Lake Effect Teammate, Todd and I took the lead on the mountain bike ride. It was time to put some miles in on the new mtb! Oh the full suspension 29r is such a change from my 26 hard tail. It was a blast with lots of climbs and in less than 3 hours we were done with the 24 mile course! WHAT A BLAST!

The camp had various road and mtn bike distance options for this 3 hour time slot and you could pick and choose accordingly…(would not want to scare anyone away thinking about this for next year)

Then…

Lifetime Masters Swimming

Yesterday was an easy day with just masters swimming in the morning, some work and then it was off to enjoy the sunshine at the Indians home opener with the sister and friends!

Well the good thing about my swimming is that there is lots of room for improvement!

Just over a month or so ago I started swimming with Lifetime Fitness Masters at 5:45 AM on Monday mornings. The first week there was about 10 people. Now it is more like 2-5 people. I almost feel bad for the coach and hope that we get some more people there so that this actually stays on the schedule.

Anyways this actually works out great for me as it is like I have a personal coach. Jeff, the coach, really seems to know his stuff and has been giving me lots and lots of tips and things to think about. He also makes me do lots more drills with his favorites being one arm leads with side kicking, fingertip drill and catch up. Not that I like to spend a bunch of time doing drills but cleary there is value to them. I just hate how tired I get doing the one arm leads and doing the side kicking!

Anyways I have been really working on my hip rotation, staying long, finishing my pull and not dropping my arm early when I breathe. I feel like I am using a bit…
